Cold Planet II by Nortenyo Cold Planet II by Nortenyo
This is a work that is final, but I think I will revist and continue working on. Imagine this a mining colony on some freezing cold planet...a sort of grand canyon if it was in the ice age. The Miners harvest a special crystal which can be broken down into useful minerals and other chemical compounds. They in turn use these materials to build their cities and power and feed their populations. C&C welcome. Keep in mind that I may add a vehicle coming into frame and and landing pad as well as more indicia or another far away settlement.

Cold Planet II by *Nortenyo is a great design that was executed extremely well. The color choice is perfect for the icey mining facility that stands in defiance against the harsh elements. I really like how the inside lighting gives the viewer perspective on how large this building is by revealing the floors of the complex. Great vision with this one. ( Featured by Aeires )

This reminds me of Forerunner architecture from Halo, the large metallic texture and the familiar blue.. I like :)

The detail is just . . . wow. I don't even know where to start. How long do paintings like these usually take you? And what resolution do you use?

This one is actual size, digital size of course. I have been meaning to paint a new vision of this all in glorious 4K resolution or even higher at 8K. A painting like this takes a few hours at most...depending on how the ideas are flowing. If I knew exactly what I wanted it would be a matter of minutes to do the actual labor.

Quick update to anyone listening out there...(crickets chirping). If you have been following you may have seen that I have not posted much anything in a long time. check out my journal for more on that...but for now...know this: Cold Planet III is in the works. You might call it an upgrade to Cold Planet II...or the one that sparked an idea in me noggin. I am currently working hard on finishing up American Clockwork my first graphic novel, written by Aaron Rodriguez, my partner in crime and one of my best buds. I have forsaken making any real new art mostly because of that project, but the minute I clear it off my tasklist, Cold Planet III will green light and may become my first solo comic project as well. Shout out if anyone is interested in seeing concept art and sketchwork as that project develops. Thanks for reading this massive post, if you did, you are a gem!

Sorry I know I have promised to follow this up with a high revision, and I will, it's just I have been a divorce, a few funerals, and a near loss of a dear family member's life. I'm getting back on track, though, and Cold Planet III is planned as one of my first new pieces in a long time. I have more art than has been scanned in, also since many pieces I have are traditionally drawn or painted. I thank everyone for al the great comments, suggestions, and general awesomeness that makes you, you. Thanks for all your support and kind word DA buddies, you rock!

Yeah, I bet they could. I was imagining this day to be JUST before a nasty storm came in...the calm, clear , and crisp air still hanging in the sky and around the canyons and between the structures.

my god: it's wonderful.... very dull and dark atmosphere but the blue and the piece of sky with the clouds make a peaceful feeling....the way you decided to draw the rocks (very flat) is aesthetic..... and it's stupid but one of my favourite part are the lights....

I think this is a pretty interesting piece. I couldn't properly see what this picture was from the preview on the first page, but really looked like a ship/set of ships out on the sea in a storm. Was it part of the intended interpretion of the piece or not? Anyways.. I think the ship out on a stormy sea works well as an analogy here only thing is, they're on a freezing planet and this is their only real cover.

What I really like in this piece is the colors and the mood. I think there's many different layers in this piece to be looking at, that draws your eyes from one point to the other. Probably what most people see at first is the cold, harsh blue colors that make up the primary lighting and the sail-like structures. Then onto the sun's rays, after that the clouds in the sky, which leads off to the distant landscape and back to the landscape in the front. What's best about this is that there's lots of detail on the way, so there's more than enough to look through.

Great piece! Now I know what I'll have as Christmas present for myself. ;)
